Description of the Business and Role of PSI

GISCONS, a self-financed company, was created in 2008 as a result of a project group at the Vienna University of Business and Economics (WU-WIEN). The company focus on the European market. The head office is in Vienna, (Austria) with another office in Wroclaw (Poland).

The company aim to spread the Geographic Information System (GIS) as a tool to their clients in order to provide a complete view of data and accompanied by spatial information.

The company’s data is connected with spatial data (also PSI Re-Used data) in order to provide web mapping solutions for geomarketing and data analysing.

Impact of the PSI Directive on the Business

The PSI Directive has had a huge impact on the opportunities to source raw data. Some years ago, geodata was very expensive. The new pricing models have led to a substantial increase of economic activities in this field. Many companies could buy geodata and produce new value-added data (PSI Re-Use), which other companies could use. The company realise, that a lot of companies have been set up in field of Business GIS. Lower prices and accessibility encouraged companies to launch their own Business Geographic Information Systems (GIS).
