Euroalert.net’s example of an innovative PSI re-use model in the roundtable on open government at FICOD 2009
Euroalert.net, represented by José Luis Marín, Chief Executive Officer of the company that owns the service, will be one of the speakers in the round table about "Open-government: creating value through the reuse of public sector information" that will take place in Madrid on November 19th in the framework of FICOD 2009, the International Forum for Digital Contents. This event will dedicate an entire afternoon to public sector information re-use.
Euroalert.net is an example of a Spanish company that has figured out an innovative business model creating value through the re-use of information from the public sector, delivering European Union related contents worldwide.
The public sector generates a great variety of information, which can be potentially re-used by citizens and the digital content industry such as social, economic, geographical, statistical, weather, tourist, business and education information. New information and communication technologies (ICTs) have radically changed the ways to access information in general and public sector information in particular. Indeed, they have facilitated its collection, dissemination, availability and transformation markedly.
The Euroalert.net service was founded 10 years ago but recently it has developed for its clients a new value proposition using technological innovation to change the way EU public sector information is delivered. Although the contents that Euroalert.net provides are mainly freely available, subscribers appreciate publishing those contents automatically in their own web sites. Contents are filtered, sorted and delivered according to each organization interests and customized to their website layout in a cost-effective way.
The CEO of Euroalert will contribute explaining how the company intends to provide more innovative ways to deliver added-value PSI in the area of European issues and International public procurement through technology-driven, scalable services. The path Euroalert has taken is also presented as a case study, “Doing Business by Selling Free Services” in a chapter of a book entitled: Web 2.0: The Business Model published by Springer.
