Monitoring the reaction to the EC Communication on the review of the PSI re-use Directive

On the 7th May 2009 the European Commission published in 22 European languages the Communication on the review of the re-use of Public Sector Information Directive 2003/98/EC. The EC transmitted the Communication to the European Council of Ministers and the European Parliament and also to Member State Parliaments. The progress of the Communication through the European Union institutions maybe tracked.

The European Parliament elections took place over the period 4 to 7 June 2009 and the European Parliament is currently preparing for the seventh legislative period. The new European Parliament will be formally constituted in Strasbourg on the 14 to 16 July 2009. The new European Parliament will not commence full activities until after the summer recess and as such progress on the Commissions Communication will not take place until the autumn of 2009.
Within the European Parliament the responsibility lies with the Industry, Research and Energy Committee.
The EC undertook a consultation of Member States and PSI Stakeholders over the period 19th May 2008 through to the 15th September 2008. The Commission received submissions from 14 Member States but only 12 gave permission for their submission to be made public. The Commission received 37 submissions from the PSI Stakeholders. It is over six weeks since the Commission published the communication and the reaction of the 49 stakeholders that responded to the consultations has been poor so far!
