Public-Private Collaboration Launch 3D Virtual Guided Tour of Spain

A news release by Proyecto Aporta, the Spanish online PSI Re-use information service, describes a resourceful and innovative use of public sector information for the Spanish tourism industry.

News Release: SEGITTUR y Geovirtual lanzarán una guía virtual de turismo de España en 3D (Spanish language)

SEGITTUR (The Spanish Society for the Management of Innovation and Technology in Tourism) and Geovirtual (company specialising in 3D graphics) have collaborated to launch a three dimensional virtual guided tour of Spain. It will be used to promote Spain as a tourist destination and will be available on the official Spanish Tourism website (http://www.spain.info) and many other government websites.

The Virtual 3D Guide will be of interest to both tourists and tourism entrepreneurs by offering the following possibilities.

  • Show attractive high resolution images from the National Geographic Institute combined with other information about Spain from public bodies.
  • Make it possible for visitors to view online high resolution aerial images and video images of Spain’s many geographic attractions, for example costal areas or mountains.
  • Promote and market Spanish tourism at regional and local levels with options to highlight different types of tourism activities such as spas, relaxation, cultural or sporting.
  • Create online virtual worlds making it possible for visitors to make informed decisions about Spanish holiday destinations and activities.
  • Make it possible for entrepreneurs in the tourism sector to promote and present their offers in a visually attractive manner.
